Demise

Once a cunning jackal called Demise lived in a forest. While searching for food he once entered the city. The city dogs surrounded him and started barking at him. In a bid to save himself he ran into a dyer’s house. In haste he jumped into a pot which was full of blue dye.

When he emerged out of the pot, Demise was dyed blue. He did not resemble a jackal at all. Soon he came out of the dyer’s house and went to the forest. The other forest dwellers did not recognise him and started to run away from him in fear. They warned each other of a strange blue animal whose strength they did not know.

When Demise, the smart jackal, saw this, he called the animals and said, “Do not fear me. I am God’s creation like you. God has sent me as your King. You can live happily in my Kingdom.” All the animals heard Demise’s words and bowed their heads in reverence and said,” Your Majesty, we all will abide by your rule.” Then the jackal assigned various tasks to all the animals.

Thus the blue jackal, Demise, ruled the forest. Even the lion and the tiger were mere hunters for him. He was clever enough to keep at a safe distance from his own community. Demise now led a grand life.

After some days Demise, due to arrogance and being egoist on account of over smartness, had forgotten that he was a jackal at all. One day as he held the court he heard a strange voice coming from far away. He at once recognised the voices to be that of his jackal brethren. He was overwhelmed with brotherly love and howled out loudly.

At his howling the animals recognised Demise being the jackal. They knew that they had been fooled by the cunning jackal. The lion immediately attacked Demise in anger and tore him to pieces. Thus, the Blue Jackal met his end on account of his over smartness.

"Seek the wisdom of the ages, but look at the world through the eyes of a child."
